Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD studentship at Leibniz-Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) in the field of phase transfer of trace gases and radicals.

The project involves the investigation of phase transfer processes for trace gases and radicals into a microscopic droplet using UV/VIS spectrometer and a flow tube system. The study focuses on the influence of atmospherically relevant organic coating to the phase transfer. A physics/physical chemistry/chemistry background will be an advantage. Laboratory, complex electronic and optical measurement techniques, and computer skills are prerequisites.

Leibniz-Institute for Tropospheric Research is an interdisciplinary research organisation and one of the frontline atmospheric research institutes. The salary level is according to German public service regulation (TV-L 13 O/2).
Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply.

The Leibniz-Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) is intensifying its experimental and theoretical research in the fields of cloud physics and the interactions between aerosol and clouds. In this context we are looking for

a PhD student.

The position is located at the Leipzig Aerosol and Cloud Interaction Simulator (LACIS) and limited to three years. The salary level is according to German public service regulation (TV-L 13 O/2).
Applicants should have a university degree in physics or meteorology and ideally have a strong background in atmospheric physics, atmospheric thermodynamics or related disciplines.
The main task of the successful candidate will be the planning, the implementation and the interpretation of the LACIS-based experiments on hygroscopic growth and activation of aerosol particles.
Though the focus of the project is on experimental work, candidate should be willing also to work on theoretical aspects. Knowledge of FORTRAN or/and C programming environments is required. It is mandatory that the candidate is fluent in spoken and written English. Experiences regarding the experimental investigation of particle-/droplet dynamical processes using laminar flow tubes would be advantageous.

We are offering the possibility to work in an interdisciplinary team, at one of the most renowned atmospheric research institutes and in one of the most attractive cities in Germany.
Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply.
