PhD student (m, f, div)
PhD position as part of the project "Iceland as a model for high-latitude dust sources - a combined experimental and modeling approach for characterization of dust emission and transport processes" (HiLDA)
The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research is a research institute of the Leibniz Association and an internationally renowned institute in the field of aerosol and cloud research.
The position is part of the project "Iceland as a model for high-latitude dust sources - a combined experimental and modeling approach for characterization of dust emission and transport processes" (HiLDA) lead by the TU Darmstadt (Prof. Dr. Konrad Kandler) and TROPOS (Dr. Kerstin Schepanski) and funded for 3 years through the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG).
- Further development of the atmosphere-aerosol model system COSMO-MUSCAT
- Revision and improvement of the currently implemented dust emission module regarding the representation of dust emission at high latitudes.
- Contribution to and participation in measurement campaigns carried out in the project's framework.
Applicants must have a University Master degree in atmospheric physics, meteorology, physics or related environmental science disciplines. The candidate will have a strong interest in environmental processes, in particular processes at the interface soil surface–atmosphere, and a strong interest in atmospheric modeling & numerical model development, and field measurements. Fluent English in written and oral form is mandatory. Experiences in programming, model application and data processing are advantageous.
Further questions regarding the project can be emailed to Kerstin Schepanski, email@example.com.
The position will start ideally on 1 January 2020 and is limited to three years until 31 December 2022.
We are offering the possibility to work in an interdisciplinary team and a wide range of career and family options as well as flexible working hours and children daycare places.
