Experienced scientific assistant (m, w, div) for the field of physical and chemical aerosol measurements at the research station Melpitz wanted
The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research is a research institute of the Leibniz Association and an internationally renowned institute in the field of aerosol and cloud research.
The open position is located in the department "Experimental Aerosol and Cloud Microphysics" and will be filled by a scientist with experience in the field of physical and chemical aerosol measurement techniques. The responsibility lies in the technical support of the Melpitz Research Station as well as the scientific acquisition and evaluation of the complex measurement data. This requires, among other things, a close cooperation between the departments "Experimental Aerosol and Cloud Microphysics" and "Chemistry of the Atmosphere".
We are looking for a scientist with a high degree in meteorology or physics and a profound knowledge in aerosol research. The candidate should have several years of experience in experimental methods and evaluation of scientific data to support the measurements at the Melpitz Research Station. The tasks of the candidate are:
- Technical support of aerosol measurements at the Melpitz research station
- Preparation of project proposals
- Independent planning, setup and execution of long-term measurements as well as international measurement campaigns at the Melpitz Research Station
- Participation in the creation of quality assurance measures
- Publication in peer-reviewed journals
The range of requirements demands both a broad basic knowledge in physical and chemical aerosol technology and meteorology as well as special knowledge of current and future scientific questions. It is desirable that the candidate has an in-depthand long-sterm experience in several of the following fields:
- Influence of aerosols on climate and air quality
- Physical and chemical properties of aerosol particles
- Development and application of automated aerosol measurements (for use at the Melpitz research station), including data backup and archiving
- Development of algorithms for measurement, transmission and evaluation of complex data
- Cooperation with authorities and companies
Prerequisites for a successful application are first of all experience in the above-mentioned areas of expertise as well as the ability to work in a team, the ability to act independently, willingness to work in the field and good English skills.
The ideal starting date for the job would be 01.01.2021.
