Invitation: OGTAC-CC - 2026_ILC_BB_module_1+2

Dear all,

On behalf of the OGTAC-CC, I kindly invite you to our 2026 interlaboratory comparison on the biomass burning tracers from module 1 and the primary biogenic source tracer compounds from module 2 (full list is attached).

The OrGanic Tracers and Aerosol Constituents - Calibration Centre (OGTAC-CC) is one topic centre unit within ACTRIS (The Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure) and its activities are a part of the ACTRIS QA/QC framework to be implemented by the ACTRIS national facilities (NFs) across Europe serving to assure the QA/QC for these facilities and the results generated by them. It aims two QA/QC purposes in support of offline chemical speciation of particulate organic tracers sampled on filters: First, to provide training and good-practice guidance covering filter collection, transport and storage, sample preparation, and data analysis. Secondly, performing interlaboratory comparisons to harmonize technical requirements and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

We´re looking for laboratories interested in participation in our upcoming ILC on the “mass concentration of particulate organics” from module 1(+2) to further strengthen this QA/QC activity. The 2026 ILC is scheduled for November 2026 till January 2027 subject to the following conditions:

  • Participating laboratories should use their individual standard operating procedure (SOP)
  • CC will send around real filter samples and synthetic samples, a minimum of three samples each is planned, plus one blank filter as control sample
  • CC will send around two standard solutions
  • CC set the guidelines with respect to the number of sample runs and injections, triplicate analysis (each sample three times full analytical procedure) for the filter samples and 3 injections each for the standard solutions is required from each participating laboratory
  • Data template is provided by the CC

For questions please contact me, Dr. Falk Mothes (mothes[at]tropos.de) or check out our recently published results of the last ILC from 2024: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.atmosenv.2026.122179.

If this has piqued your interest please get in touch with us. Expression of interest is possible until end of September 2026.

Best,

Falk Mothes
