The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) is a research institute of the Leibniz
Association and an internationally renowned institute in the field of aerosol and cloud research.

We are looking for reinforcement for our service-oriented IT team. You will have the opportunity
to take on a varied and exciting range of tasks in the IT department of a non-university research
institute. The IT research infrastructure is the basis for all business processes, science and
research. Constantly changing IT technologies have to be managed and further developed.
There are many opportunities for you to expand your technical expertise and realize projects
independently.
 

The tasks include:

  • Development of a modern monitoring system with Prometheus and Grafana
  • Upgrade of existing UNIX/Linux systems to current releases
  • Independent conception, implementation and support of areas of the IT infrastructure
  • Software development to automate IT processes and optimize the IT services offered
  • Installation, configuration, monitoring, maintenance and management of hardware and
    software components
  • Client and user support for UNIX, MacOS & Windows
     

Qualifications are:

  • Completed university degree (BA) in computer science or comparable, or completed
    training as an IT specialist, or at least 3 years of professional experience in the IT field
  • Sound knowledge in the administration of Unix-based systems (RedHat, Debian)
  • Knowledge of monitoring IT services (Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Knowledge in dealing with container technologies
  • Knowledge of network technology and services (IPv4/v6, DNS, DHCP, SMB, NFS, etc.)
  • Willingness to get to grips with new technologies
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility and motivation (especially to familiarize yourself
    quickly with a wide range of IT areas)
  • Service mentality and stress resistance as well as a sense of responsibility
  • Goal-oriented and independent way of working

Also desirable are:

  • Programming skills (preferably Python or Ruby)
  • Knowledge in the administration of SAN infrastructures using Fiber Channel

The appointment is for a fixed term of two years and involves a full-time position of 40 hours
per week, which can also be carried out part-time with at least 20 hours. The salary will be TVL
pay group 10, including the attractive social benefits of the public sector (e.g. special annual
payment, 30 full-time vacation days and working time account for up to 20 flexitime days per
