The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research is a research institute of the Leibniz Association and an internationally renowned institute in the field of chemical and physical research on aerosols and clouds.

The Atmospheric Chemistry Department (ACD) of TROPOS is looking for a scientist with experience in air quality studies.

Main Tasks:

  • Continuation and further development of the departments’ continental field work on current issues of air quality, e.g. biomass burning, source apportionment, ultrafine particles composition, impact of multiphase chemistry

  • Supervising laboratory staff regarding offline chemical analysis using chromatographic techniques

  • If applicable, lead of the ACD team ‘Continental Field Studies’ 

  • Supervising PhD students on the given topics

  • Establish and operate strong interconnections in ACD, in TROPOS and with project cooperation partners

  • Project development, funding acquirement, project management, and dissemination of scientific results

     

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in discipline of the natural sciences, preferably chemistry

  • Experiences in one or more such as, but not limited to, atmospheric chemistry field experiments, aerosol characterization, aerosol-cloud interaction, air quality and policy advise, offline and online particle and gas phase, chemical mechanisms, application of artificial intelligence and modern measurement techniques, analytical chemistry, collaboration with modelers and modelling groups, conduct of large scientific collaborative experiments. 

  • High intrinsic motivation to deliver excellent scientific results

  • Ability to work both independently as well as a part of a team, competent cooperation with international teams

  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability

  • Very good command of the English language, good German speaking would be beneficial

  • Strong background knowledge and experience in atmospheric chemistry and physics
