Investigations of aerosol-cloud interaction in mixed phase clouds using spectral aerosol and cloud physics models
Cloud processes play a central role in the atmospheric system and are systematically investigated using modeling approaches. Research focuses in particular on the complex interactions between aerosols, clouds, and precipitation. As condensation and ice nuclei, aerosols influence cloud microphysics and thus also precipitation formation. These coupled processes are simulated using high-resolution models in order to better quantify their significance for weather and climate forecasts.
