"A research team from the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) and the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg has successfully overcome these limitations. In a study published in Communications Earth & Environment in December 2025, they employed pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS) to identify the chemical "fingerprints" of microplastics in the air."
